Chris Murphy is the “son of a public school teacher” as a recent ad claims, but he is also the son a lawyer who leads one of Hartford’s prestigious law firms.

Scott Murphy is managing partner of Shipman & Goodwin. He has carved out a niche serving as a lawyer for the state’s quasi-public agencies, including the one that build Rentschler Field and the state’s venture capital company, Connecticut Innovations. (According to another campaign ad, Murphy’s father also worked in a factory at some point during his career.)

There is no problem with descending from a prominent lawyer. It just goes a long way to explain Murphy’s thus-far successful political trajectory.
