The Office of Comptroller Kevin Lembo released details Friday on the longevity payments to state employees totaling more than $10 million.
Non-union employees received about 60 percent of total longevity payments. Union employees received about 40 percent.
The highest bonuses for non-union employees were more than twice as big as bonuses for union employees.
James Blake, provost at Southern Connecticut State University, received $6,768.99, while Michael Pernal, provost at Eastern Connecticut State University, received $6,685.03.
Legislative Management’s D’Ann Mazzocca and Western Connecticut State University Vice President Walter Bernstein also received more than $6,000.
Twenty-three employees received bonuses between $5,000 and $6,000.
The three top union recipients received $3,095.92. They work at Central, Eastern and Southern Connecticut State Universities.
The state makes longevity payments twice a year to state employees based on how long they have worked for the state.
Longevity OCT 2011 Detail
Only in government would one receive a longevity bonus: not a bonus for actually adding value, or producing anything of value.
The garage door dies some time during its 13,476th operation, while it’s being closed. It goes out without much drama—there’s no audible snap as the torsion spring breaks, no parts dangle loose in telltale failure, and the motor sill lights up, strains and stops. Maybe it was during the last big freeze, when ice swelled the door sections.
